Thank you so so much Dr. Gupta for your utmost commitment and dedication towards your profession. I am so grateful and thankful to God to have you alongside during the toughest phase of my life.My name is Megha and I was recently diagnosed with AML. I was 34 years old and holding a 5 day old newborn in my arms. As soon as I learnt the news my whole world came crashing down, I was so carried away and couldn’t put myself together to even process any of the information which came afterwards. With the limited knowledge I had and when internet had nothing promising to offer I was so demotivated. I immigrated to Canada 10 years ago and the first thing which came to my mind was to run back home but due to so many commitments here and with two little kids I couldn’t even think of anything like that. I went to Vancouver General Hospital as my local hematologist asked me to for treatment and was so blessed to see Dr. S K Gupta on the receiving side. He took all his time to explain us all the details and to help answer all of our questions and did everything to help reduce our anxieties. Certain answers you will never find in theory or text but Dr. Gupta’s personal experiences with so many cases motivated me to move ahead with the treatment. Dr. Gupta kept a closer eye throughout the treatment and gave me solutions even before I voiced my concerns to him. With his expertise I gained confidence in the process and everything wasn’t as daunting as it initially was. Thank you so much Dr. Gupta for all your help and support throughout!!I would highly recommend Dr. Gupta to anyone who’s in need as he is extremely intelligent, knowledgeable and experienced!!

Back in September 2021, my father had frequent fevers, night sweats, lumps developed in neck, under arms and groin area. After biopsy, PET-CT, Pan India hospital medical oncologist confirmed that he is diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma stage-3aDoctor prescribed 6 chemotherapy cycles of Bendamustine/Rituximab[BR] therapy and we got his treatment started immediately. After 6 cycles [April 2022] his PET-CT results were good.Even though the cancer was into remission by end of treatment, He always suffered side effects during the course of treatment especially Abscess issues.Though we explained the Abscess issues with treating doctor in Pan India network hospital he was least bothered and failed to treat the side effects my father faced during treatment.I have personally seen my father suffering a lot with Abscess side effects. The Abscess issues turned so bad and life threatening that he had to undergo Nasal Abscess surgery in Continental Hospitals. The treating ENT doctor in continental hospitals Mr.Dushyanth asked us to get the clearance from Oncology department by visiting Mr S.K Gupta. This is point from where our journey started with Mr S.K Gupta sir.Though he had given immediate clearance for surgery, he took out time to explain us how this would have been dealt, avoided upfront and the immunity issues lymphoma patients faces. This is where I understood the difference between medical oncologist and Haemato-Oncologist in treating patients with Lymphoma or Blood related disorders. After Abscess surgery and in next subsequent visits he corrected My father's Immunoglobulin IGG levels and suggested to undergo Rituximab Maintenance therapy. But before the next scheduled visit for Maintenance therapy, my father had severe back pain issues and he was not able to walk.Based on doctor's suggestion my father had undergone MRI scan and results showed the pathological compression fracture of L1 vertebra. Sir explained pathologic fracture is always caused by an underlying disease and he suspected the relapse of cancer. Gupta sir personally consulted neurosurgeon and got my father's decompression surgery immediately next day. This surgery helped my father to get rid of the back pain he was suffering from. The following subsequent PET-CT, biopsy reports [sample collected from decompression surgery] showed the cancer relapse. So, my father had a relapse of cancer transformed from Follicular Lymphoma to DLBCL lymphoma within 8 months of first line treatment. As this is high grade, Sir explained the treatment plan [R-CHOP chemotherapy, followed by autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation]. My father underwent first chemo cycle just after 6 days of his decompression surgery. His treatment, follow up's on patient condition was so good that my father coped up with surgery and chemo-treatment at once.Gupta Sir follow ups and his planning for the next course of treatment is worth mentioning. My father didn't have any side effects during next chemotherapy cycles. After 3 cycles his PET-CT showed cancer in remission. Right after 1 month my father had undergone BMT treatment under Gupta sir supervision. Now my father is completely recovered and he is back to normal doing all his daily activities, driving car etc..Having said about my father's treatment, I would like to say few words about Gupta sir.S.K Gupta is a thorough professional who has in-depth knowledge in handling Lymphoma, and other blood related disorders and cancers. He is patient-friendly, allots a lot of time for each patient and boosts the confidence/morale of patient and attenders. One of the most inspiring and rare quality I have seen in him is his ability and urge in remembering patient's clinical history. Definitely a Great Doctor and Great Human Being. In last 18 months, what I understood is Cancer treatment is a long journey. Journey would be good only if the doctor well treats the side effects along with main line treatment.Absolutely no need to give any double thoughts and he is a go-to doctor for any Hematology problems.

Patient Information

Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that binds to oxygen in the lungs and carries it to tissues throughout the body. It also helps transport carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs for exhalation.

The CBC test is a common blood test that provides important information about the types and numbers of cells in the blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It can help diagnose a variety of conditions, such as anemia, infection, inflammation, and blood disorders. The CBC results, along with other tests and clinical findings, aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with hematological disorders.

A bone marrow biopsy involves the removal of a small sample of bone marrow tissue for examination under a microscope. It is performed to diagnose various blood disorders, such as leukemia, lymphoma, anemia, and certain infections. It provides information about the composition of the bone marrow, including the types and numbers of blood cells being produced.

Common symptoms of anemia include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness or lightheadedness, cold hands and feet, and headaches. Severe anemia may also cause chest pain, rapid heartbeat, and cognitive problems.

Benign hematological disorders are non-cancerous conditions that affect the blood or bone marrow, such as anemia or thrombocytopenia. Malignant hematological disorders, on the other hand, are cancers that originate from blood-forming tissues, such as leukemia, lymphoma, or multiple myeloma. Malignant disorders involve uncontrolled growth and proliferation of abnormal cells.

Risk factors for hematological cancers include genetic predisposition, exposure to certain chemicals or radiation, immune system disorders, viral infections (such as Epstein-Barr virus or human T-cell leukemia virus), and some inherited conditions (like Down syndrome or certain types of anemia).

Treatment for hematological cancers depends on the specific type and stage of the disease but may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, stem cell transplantation, and/or surgery. The treatment approach is often tailored to individual patients based on factors such as age, overall health, and genetic markers.

Molecular testing, such as cytogenetic analysis and next-generation sequencing, plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment selection for hematological cancers. It helps identify specific genetic mutations or chromosomal abnormalities that drive cancer growth, allowing for more precise treatment strategies, including targeted therapies.
